Udupi: Indian Red Cross Society donates mobile health van to CSI Lombard Memorial Hospital

Udupi, Dec 7: In a significant step toward enhancing community healthcare, CSI Lombard Memorial Hospital, Udupi, inaugurated a state-of-the-art mobile health van donated by the Indian Red Cross Society. The mobile health van was inaugurated by Ivan D’Souza, MLC Karnataka.

Speaking at the event, Rt Rev Hemachandra Kumar, bishop of CSI Karnataka Southern Diocese, praised the hospital’s commitment to serving society. “This mobile health van will reach countless individuals in need of emergency care. I thank the Red Cross for trusting this hospital with this invaluable resource, and Ivan D’Souza for his support in legal and government matters,” he said.

MLC Ivan D’Souza commended the hospital's legacy, stating, “Mission Hospital has always been known for treating patients like family. This new addition will further enhance its reputation as a beacon of hope for many. As APJ Abdul Kalam said, ‘Dream big,’ and this hospital embodies that spirit.”

C Basrur Rajeeva Shetty, chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, Udupi, provided details about the advanced mobile health van. “Equipped with modern medical facilities and full AC, this van, worth Rs 35 lac, is designed for all kinds of emergencies. We are always ready to support this hospital, which has a century-long history of serving the nation,” he said.

In his presidential address, Dr Sushil Jathanna, director of Mission Hospital, highlighted the van’s role in addressing emergency healthcare needs. “This mobile van will be pivotal in providing emergency services, particularly for heart disease patients, as cardiac arrests are rising among youth. This dream wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our staff and management. I thank the Red Cross Society for making this a reality,” he remarked.

Ramesh Kanchan, councilor of Udupi municipality, congratulated the hospital on the new addition and assured support for its future developments.

The event saw the participation of several dignitaries, including Rt Rev Hemachandra Kumar, Ivan D’Souza, C Basrur Rajeeva Shetty, Dr Sushil Jathanna, and Ramesh Kanchan. Rev Ivan D Soans, Udupi area council president of CSI-KSD, doctors, students of Lombard Hospital, and representatives from Lombard institutions were also present.

The program began with a prayer by Rev Ivan D Soans. Liona Strelita welcomed the gathering, while Celestin Susan delivered the vote of thanks. Hemalata Bangera compered the event.
