Kundapur: Three brothers swept away while swimming at beach; 1 dead, another critical, third missing

Kundapur, Dec 7: Tragedy struck at Kodi Beach near here on Saturday, December 7 evening when three brothers, part of a family outing, were swept away by the sea while swimming.

According to initial reports, Dhanraj (23), son of Damodar Prabhu from Amparu Five Cents, lost his life in the incident. His brother Dhanush (20) is in critical condition and undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kundapur. Their cousin Darshan (18) remains missing, with search operations underway.

The three individuals were siblings, and it is learned that Dhanush, who is critically injured, is a student of NITK Surathkal.

The incident occurred around 6 pm on Saturday when the trio went swimming at Kodi Beach. Dhanraj, whose body was recovered, and Dhanush, who is now hospitalized, were reportedly equipped with masks and goggles, indicating they were prepared for swimming.

Tourists from Bengaluru who were present at the scene noticed the incident and immediately jumped into the sea to rescue two of them. Local residents also assisted in rushing the rescued individuals to Kundapur hospital. However, Darshan, the nephew of Damodar Prabhu, remains missing.

Efforts to locate Darshan are ongoing, with expert swimmers, firefighters, and police conducting search operations. A case has been registered at Kundapur police station regarding the incident.
