Mangaluru: Two cars collide while overtaking, elderly woman killed

Mangaluru, Dec 9: An elderly woman lost her life in a tragic accident caused by a two-car overtaking maneuver on National Highway 66 near Adamkudru on Monday, December 9 evening. Both cars involved in the accident rolled into a roadside ditch.

The deceased has been identified as Baby (65), wife of Krishnappa, a resident of Sevanthigudde. Baby owned a shop in Adamkudru and worked the night shift at an apartment.

On Monday evening, as she was crossing the road to head to work, a speeding Polo car heading towards Mangaluru collided with her. The impact of the accident caused her death on the spot. The Polo car, which had lost control, veered off the road and overturned into a deep ditch at the highway's edge. A Kia car, which was overtaking the Polo, also crashed into the roadside bushes.

Both car drivers sustained injuries and have been admitted to the hospital.

DCP Ravishankar, ACP (Traffic) Nazma Farooqi, and the south traffic police visited the accident site and conducted an inspection.
