Beltangady, Dec 11: A man accused of snatching a gold necklace from a woman in Koyyuru village has been arrested by the police. The accused, identified as Umesh Gowda (38), son of Koragappa Gowda, a resident of Girigudde near Dembuga, Koyyuru village, was apprehended during a police operation.
The incident occurred on December 9 when Rajeevi (50), wife of Damodar Bhat and a resident of Koriaru in Koyyuru village, was returning home. After alighting from a bus near Pambelu in Koyyuru around 2:35 PM, she was walking towards her house when the accused followed her and attempted to snatch her 32-gram gold necklace.
Rajeevi resisted by holding onto the necklace firmly, causing it to break. The accused fled with a portion of the necklace into a nearby government forest area.
Beltangady police, assisted by local youths, launched a search operation in the forest late into the night. Under the leadership of Beltangady circle inspector Nagesh Kadri, a special team tracked down the accused and arrested him at his residence early on December 10.
Further investigations are underway.
