Mangaluru, Dec 11: In a major boost to international air connectivity, Mangaluru International Airport is set to connect to its first-ever Southeast Asian destination with direct flights to Singapore starting January 21, 2025. Operated by Air India Express, the new route will offer two weekly non-stop flights on Tuesdays and Fridays, marking a historic milestone for the airport, which previously only catered to destinations in the Middle East and Saudi Arabia.

Capt Brijesh Chowta's vision to connect Mangaluru- Singapore materialises

Singapore, a globally renowned business and leisure hub, will now be accessible from Mangaluru, opening up opportunities for trade, tourism, and personal travel. It is noteworthy that Dakshina Kannada MP Brijesh Chowta had personally requested union civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu in September 2024 to facilitate the connectivity between Mangaluru and Singapore. Announcing the development, Capt Brijesh Chowta expressed delight, noting that this long-awaited route fulfills repeated requests for better air connectivity between Mangaluru and Singapore's Changi Airport.

Capt Chowta shared on social media, "In the new year, Mangaluru will have two direct flights to Singapore operated by Air India Express, alongside two new connections each to Pune and Delhi. These flights not only cater to demand but align with the Union Government's Act East policy, fostering closer ties with ASEAN and East Asian nations." He also encouraged Mangaloreans based in Singapore to return to their roots and consider investing in Mangaluru.

Daily direct flights to Delhi starting February 1

Adding to the excitement, Air India Express will launch daily non-stop flights between Mangaluru and Delhi from February 1, 2025. This route aims to cater to business travelers, tourists, and cultural enthusiasts, ensuring seamless travel to the nation’s capital.

Connecting coastal and city vibes with Pune flights

From February 1, Mangaluru will also be connected to Pune with two direct flights every Saturday. The new schedule promises convenience for travelers heading between the coastal city and the bustling urban center of Pune.

Flight schedule for Pune route:

  • Mangaluru to Pune: 08:00 & 18:30
  • Pune to Mangaluru: 09:55 & 20:35

These new flights signify Mangaluru’s growing prominence as a key hub in the region, enhancing connectivity and fostering economic growth. Stay tuned as Mangaluru takes to the skies with new routes and exciting possibilities.

Very good news. Earlier shortest route to Singapore is Via Bangalore which used to take 10 hours. Now it is reduced to 5 hours. Instead of two flights to Pune on same day, it could have been made 2 different days of the week. Good work Chowta brother.
