Kundapur: High court stays criminal case against chief medical officer

Kundapur, Dec 12: The high court has issued a stay order on a criminal case filed against Dr Robert Rebello, the chief medical officer of the local government hospital.

The case stemmed from a notice issued to a doctor serving at the hospital's Nutritional Rehabilitation Centre on May 23, 2024, citing allegations of dereliction of duty. In response to the notice, the doctor filed a criminal case against the chief medical officer.

Dr Rebello subsequently filed an appeal in the high court. After reviewing the appeal, a single-judge bench led by Justice M Nagaprasanna observed that the criminal case appeared to be a retaliatory action following the notice for dereliction of duty. Taking this into account, the court granted a stay order on the case against the chief medical officer.
