Mangaluru, Dec 14: As many as 17 medical undergraduates from Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru, have been awarded the prestigious Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Short-Term Studentship (STS) grant for 2024.
The STS initiative is designed to provide research opportunities for undergraduate medical and dental students, equipping them with essential skills in research methodologies, scientific writing, and research ethics early in their medical careers. This grant allows students to embark on independent projects under the mentorship of their professors or to contribute to ongoing research projects led by their seniors or faculty members.
Each awarded student will receive a stipend of Rs 60,000 (effective from 2024), distributed in three installments, for a six-month period of research work. In addition, students will earn an e-certificate upon completion of their projects, further enhancing their academic and professional profiles.
This achievement underscores the commitment of Kasturba Medical College to foster a strong research culture among its students and prepare them for future roles as innovative and capable physicians.
