Mangaluru, Dec 14: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru hosted a highly impactful cyber security awareness workshop by name “Cyber Sainik programme” on December 10 and 12, for students in two groups, grade 6 to 8 and grade 9 and 11 in collaboration with the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) and Kyndryl. The programme focused on equipping young minds with essential knowledge and tools to navigate the digital world safely and securely.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Prathiksha Pai, who also introduced the esteemed guest speakers Vedika Tomar, project coordinator at DSCI, and Chirag from Cyber Sapiens.
Their expertise and engaging sessions left a profound impact on the students. The day was packed with enlightening activities and discussions. Students explored topics such as the awareness on misuse of the internet which included cyber stalking, blackmailing, spreading fake information, and the dangers of fake accounts.
The interactive sessions also covered key areas like how the internet works, the risks of social media including cyber bullying and digital footprints, and practical ways to prevent trolling and cyber bullying. Students were informed of websites like nobullying.com, a valuable helpline for students to report cyber bullying.
Breakout sessions allowed students to reflect on these discussions, provided opportunities for informal learning and interaction. The day’s activities underscored the importance of fostering a safer and more responsible digital culture.
The team also conducted a poster making competition on cyber security for the students and the following students won the cash prizes:

5th place - Iksha P Kottary
Grade 9 and 11 category:
1st place - Tejas Chandra Satish
2nd place - Akshaya
3rd place - Angelica Andrade
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Shauna Eva D’Sa of grade 8 and Deeksha N of grade 11, expressing gratitude to the guests, speakers, vice-principal, staff and students for their involvement and in particular to the principal and the school management for providing them with a much needed learning opportunity.
This event marked a significant step in educating and empowering students, preparing them to face digital challenges confidently while contributing to a secure online community through cyber vigilance.
