Mangaluru, Dec 15: A tragic accident occurred late Saturday night on the service road in front of Thokkottu overbridge, where a Gypsy vehicle collided with a scooter, resulting in the death of the rider and leaving the pillion rider seriously injured.

The deceased has been identified as Arun Poojary (43), a resident of Eliyaru Padu Sampige Daddi. The injured, Hemavathi, works as a cleaner in a bar. Arun, who had been working as a waiter at a Wine and Dine bar near Kapikad for several years, was returning home to Eliyaru Padu on his Activa scooter after finishing his shift.

A speeding and reckless Gypsy driver hit the scooter, causing Arun to sustain critical injuries. He succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital. Hemavathi suffered serious leg injuries. The impact of the collision was so severe that the Activa scooter’s seat was flung from the service road onto the highway.

Locals alleged that the Gypsy driver was heavily intoxicated, leading to the accident. A crowd gathered at the scene, confronting the driver.
