Mangaluru, Dec 15: The prestigious 10th Moolathva Vishwa Award 2024 has been conferred on Udupi’s Eshwar Malpe in recognition of his selfless service as a rescue diver and underwater expert. The announcement was made by Prakash Moolathva, president of Moolathva Foundation Charitable Trust, at a press meet held in the city.
Eshwar Malpe, a self-taught underwater expert and rescue diver from Malpe, Karnataka, has dedicated over two decades to underwater search and rescue operations. Popularly known as the “Aqua Man” of Udupi, he has saved numerous lives by preventing drownings and retrieving bodies from water bodies across Karnataka. He has also played a crucial role in rescuing individuals trapped in rapids and assisting those attempting suicide.
The award, which includes a cash prize of Rs 1,00,001, honors his extraordinary dedication to society.
Moolathva Foundation Charitable Trust, headquartered in Mangaluru, works on the principle of collective unity with the theme “I am you, and you are me.” The trust engages in various philanthropic activities, including free medical camps, educational aid for underprivileged children, Swachh Bharath Abhiyans, and promoting physical and mental well-being through collective prayers.
Since its inception, the foundation has been honoring individuals who exemplify selfless service with the Moolathva Vishwa Award. Previous awardees include luminaries like Akshara Santha Harekala Hajabba (2015), Padmashree Subhashini Mistry (2016), Padmashree Sindhutai Sapkal (2017), and others who have made significant contributions to society.
The award ceremony will be held on December 29 at 10 am at the Sharada Vidyalaya Auditorium, Kodialbail, Mangaluru.
