Mangaluru, Dec 15: As part of the silver jubilee celebrations of the Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh (R), Ranipura unit, a new bus shelter constructed near the Ranipura Mary Queen of the Universe Church in memory of Fr G B Pinto was inaugurated.
Fr Jayaprakash D’Souza, parish priest of Ranipura Church, and Fr Rudolf Pinto, director of Ranipura Kushivan, blessed the event.
The new bus shelter, built in memory of Fr G B Pinto, was inaugurated by entrepreneur Rupesh. Speaking on the occasion, Lanina Gretta D’Souza, president of the Catholic Sabha Ranipura unit, highlighted the contributions of Fr G B Pinto to the development of the Ranipura region through the establishment of the church, school, convent, and bus services. She said the bus shelter was a fitting tribute to his memory.
Wilfred D’Souza, member of the Munnur gram panchayat and co-coordinator of the silver jubilee committee, remarked that Fr G B Pinto was a beacon of hope for all households in Ranipura, irrespective of religion. He recalled how Fr Pinto provided shelter to people of all faiths at the Ranipura Church during the floods of 1974 and said his service remains an inspiration to all.
On the occasion, Surya, who worked on the construction of the bus shelter, was felicitated.
Among those present were Munnur gram panchayat member Naveen D’Souza, member Rita Lobo, silver jubilee committee coordinator Herald Lobo, vice president of the Catholic Sabha Ranipura unit Vatintin D’Sa, secretary Emiliana Gonsalves, joint secretary Everest D’Souza, Amcho Sandesh magazine representative David D’Souza, political coordinator Cyril D’Souza, women’s welfare coordinator Trees Monteiro, youth welfare coordinator Nelson D’Lima, former president Felix Monteiro, and Delon Lobo.
