Udupi, Dec 18: Allied health professions form a vital segment of healthcare, with professionals working to prevent disease transmission, diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate individuals across all ages and specialties. Manipal College of Health Professions (MCHP), a flagship institution under the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE)—recognized as an “Institute of Eminence” by the Ministry of Education, government of India—is celebrating its Silver Jubilee for 2024-25.

MCHP, the first and largest institute in India and Asia exclusively dedicated to allied health education, caters to the needs of higher education in this domain. It boasts students from 22 countries and offers programs across all four MAHE campuses. The institute trains skilled allied health professionals to work in multidisciplinary health teams, contributing to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of various conditions and ensuring optimal patient outcomes.

Since its establishment in 1999, MCHP has grown phenomenally, earning recognition as a center of excellence in allied health sciences. Its demand-driven programs, state-of-the-art infrastructure, clinical facilities, and dedicated faculty have set high standards in allied health education.

The Silver Jubilee Alumni Reunion was officially inaugurated by Dr Sharath K Rao, pro vice chancellor (health sciences) and founding president of the MAHE Alumni Association. He highlighted the crucial role of qualified allied health professionals in healthcare systems and praised MCHP for its quality education and interdisciplinary research.

Dr Cherian Varghese, director of Prasanna School of Public Health, and Dr Rohith Singh, director of MAHE Alumni Relations, commended the institution's remarkable growth and the achievements of its alumni.

Dr G Arun Maiya, dean of MCHP, reflected on the institution’s journey over 25 years, emphasizing its expansion and achievements. He noted that more than 70% of MCHP alumni are placed in reputed institutions across the globe. Over 500 alumni from various parts of the world participated in the reunion, where distinguished alumni achievers were felicitated for their contributions.

Dr Shovan Saha, chair of institutional alumni relations at MCHP, and Dr Venkataraj Aithal, associate dean, provided an overview of alumni activities. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Sheela.
