Belagavi, Dec 18: Over 25 women beneficiaries of the Gruha Lakshmi guarantee scheme called on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at the Belagavi Suvarna Soudha and expressed their warm appreciation for empowering them through the monthly payment of Rs 2,000, which they claim has given them a new lease of life.
Speaking to media persons after meeting the Gruha Lakshmi scheme beneficiaries, Siddaramaiah said the government is very happy in helping the economic and social empowerment of women and reiterated that there was no question of discontinuing the guarantee scheme.
The chief minister said the opposition BJP is jealous of the success of the guarantee scheme and refuted BJP allegation that the Gruha Lakshmi scheme has led to conflicts within the families. “It is totally wrong to claim that the Gruha Lakshmi scheme has led to fights between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law,” he said pointing out that many mothers-in-law had come to meet him along with their daughters-in-laws and explained the benefits from the scheme.
The Congress government is committed to working for the poor and empowering women, he asserted.
