Kundapur: Forest officials assaulted during Ambergris raid at Kodi Beach

Kundapur, Dec 18: A team from the Mangaluru Forest Division, acting on reliable information about the illegal sale of ambergris at Kodi Beach, was attacked by locals on Wednesday, December 18, in the afternoon.

The forest officials, disguised and arriving in three vehicles, were conducting a raid when they were met with violent resistance. The team, including CID officers, was searching for evidence of the illegal trade when locals began assaulting them.

 

Several officers were injured and received treatment at the Kundapura Government Hospital. ASI Janaki from the Forest mobile squad has filed a case with the Kundapura police station.

It was reported that the forest team did not inform the local police about their operation. Two informants who had accompanied the team were also seriously assaulted during the raid.

ASI Janaki has filed charges against eight individuals, and police are expected to make arrests soon.
