Bengaluru/Belagavi, Dec 19: The winter session of the Legislative Council in Belagavi descended into chaos on Thursday after BJP MLC CT Ravi was accused of making derogatory remarks about Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar. The incident has ignited a major political row, with both parties engaging in heated confrontations. Meanwhile based on an FIR lodged at the Hirebagewadi police station,C T Ravi has been arrested from Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi.

The controversy unfolded during a tense exchange in the session when Ravi allegedly referred to Hebbalkar with an offensive term, causing an immediate uproar in the House.

Minister Hebbalkar, visibly shaken, left the chamber in tears, unable to contain her distress. As she exited, she expressed her emotional pain to the media, saying that she felt humiliated by the remark.

The incident sparked an intense protest from Congress members, who accused Ravi of disrespecting a woman minister. However, Ravi vehemently denied the accusations, asserting that he had not used any derogatory language.

He insisted that the official proceedings of the session, which are recorded, could verify his statement. Ravi further clarified that he was discussing Ambedkar and not targeting Hebbalkar in any way during his speech.

Hebbalkar, not willing to let the matter go, filed a formal complaint with the Council Chairperson Basavaraj Horatti, urging an investigation into the allegations. In response, Horatti ordered a review of the session's audio and video recordings to ascertain the truth.

The Congress party, in the meantime, is preparing to take the issue to the House, demanding disciplinary action against Ravi.

This latest clash between BJP and Congress in the Legislative Council has stirred significant controversy, especially over the treatment of female politicians in the political arena. The incident not only reflects the ongoing tensions between the two parties but also raises questions about respect and decorum within the legislature.

As the matter is under investigation, the political fallout continues to intensify, with Congress pushing for strict action, while the BJP maintains that Ravi's comments were misinterpreted. The ongoing developments are expected to dominate political discussions in the coming days.
