Udupi, Dec 20: "Sharing happiness and living in harmony with one another is the true essence of Christmas," said Fr Denis D'Sa, parish priest of St Ann's Church, Thottam. He was speaking at the Christmas celebration event organized by the Samanvaya Sarvadharma Sauhardha Samithi, Thottam, held at the CSI Church, Malpe, on Friday.

Fr Denis D'Sa emphasized that Christmas becomes meaningful when people exchange greetings, share sweets, and embrace the spirit of coexistence. "When Jesus Christ is born in the hearts of our neighbors, we give true meaning to the festival. Every religion teaches its followers to do good to their neighbors. We must develop a mindset that respects and cherishes all religions, fostering a harmonious society," he remarked.

Ramesh Thingalaya, president of Samanvaya Sarvadharma Sauhardha Samithi, Thottam, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the commonalities among various religious practices. "Every religion encourages its followers to pray for the well-being of others. By respecting and valuing our neighbors, we can undoubtedly build a harmonious society," he said.

As a model initiative to mark the Christmas celebration, the Samanvaya Sarvadharma Sauhardha Samithi, Thottam, extended financial assistance of Rs 25,000 to Shruti, the daughter of Krishnappa and Yashoda, a couple from Malpe struggling with kidney-related health issues.

The program featured a variety of Christmas-themed entertainment activities presented by members of CSI Church Malpe, UBM Church Malpe, and St Ann's Church, Thottam.

The event was graced by prominent figures, including Pastor Kumar Salins of UBM Church Malpe and committee officials Vanitha Fernandes, Shabbir, and Siraj, along with Sunil Fernandes, vice president of the St Ann’s Church pastoral committee.

The program began with a welcome address by Pastor Edwin Joseph of CSI Church Malpe and concluded with a vote of thanks by Godwin. The event was compered by Gloria.
