Brahmavar, Dec 22:- The 28th death anniversary of Fr Alfred Roche OFM Cap, fondly known as "Amcho Padryab," was observed with solemnity at Holy Family Church, Brahmavar. Fr Alfred Roche, the first individual from the newly-formed Udupi Diocese to be declared a "Servant of God," received this recognition from Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo on August 15, 2021, at the same church.
The Holy Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr Paul Melwyn D'Souza, OFM Cap, vicar provincial of Holy Trinity Province, Karnataka, who also delivered the sermon. He was joined by Fr Santa Lopes, OFM Cap, vice-postulator of the Cause, Fr John Fernandes, OFM Cap, parish priest of Holy Family Church, Fr Reginald Furtado, Fr Rohan Lobo cap, Fr Dancy Martis cap, Karnataka provincial councillors, and other friars from the province, were also present.
Addressing the congregation, Fr Melwyn D’Souza expressed his joy in attending the commemoration and conveyed his gratitude. He said that Fr Alfred Roche was a remarkable individual known for his unwavering sense of responsibility, embodying love, sacrifice and care particularly in his selfless dedication to supporting youth and extending a helping hand to those in need.
On this occasion, the new 2025 calendar was officially released by Fr Paul Melwyn D'Souza and distributed free of cost to all attendees. Fr Rohan Lobo cap expressed the gratitude to all benefactors and donors who supported the event.
A short prayer service led by Fr Paul Melwyn D'Souza was held at the cemetery adjacent to the church, in front of the burial place of Fr Alfred Roche. Parishioners from Barkur, Kallianpur, Sasthan, and other nearby areas attended the mass.
