Mumbai, Dec 23: Former Indian cricket star Vinod Kambli has been hospitalised after his health deteriorated over the weekend. According to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by news agency IANS, Kambli, a long-time teammate of Sachin Tendulkar, was admitted to Akriti Hospital in Thane late on Saturday night.

The post further stated, “His condition is now stable but remains critical.”

On Monday, a video of Kambli was shared by a fan, showing the former India cricketer giving a thumbs-up gesture, leading to some reassurance about his condition. The video, which had gone viral recently, sparked speculation regarding his health struggles.

Over the past few weeks, there has been considerable attention on Kambli’s health. Recently, he attended a function honouring the late Ramakant Achrekar, the coach who mentored both Kambli and Tendulkar at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. However, several videos surfaced on social media showing Kambli struggling to maintain his composure at the event, further fuelling concerns about his health.

Kambli, now 52, has since opened up about his ongoing health battle. In an interview with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, he explained that he has been struggling with a urine infection, but expressed that he is now feeling "better". "I am better now. My wife takes care of me a lot. She took me to three different hospitals and told me, 'You have to get fit'. Ajay Jadeja also came to visit me. It felt nice," Kambli shared.

He continued, “I was suffering from a urine problem. It was just flowing. My son, Jesus Cristiano, picked me up and brought me back to my feet. My daughter, who is 10 years old, and my wife came to help me. This happened one month ago. My head started spinning; I collapsed and fell down. The doctor told me to get admitted.”

Despite his health challenges, Kambli has been supported by his family, including his wife and children, and his long-time friends from the cricketing world, such as Ajay Jadeja, who came to visit him during this difficult time.
