Bantwal, Dec 27: A delegation from the Women India Movement met Dr Nagalaxmi Chowdhury, president of the State Women’s Commission, urging her to take serious note of the assault on a pregnant woman and a minor girl by miscreants at their residence in Parlia, B C Road, Kaikamba. The delegation also visited the victims' home and offered support to the distressed family.

The incident involved Hasainaar, a known rowdy sheeter in Bantwal, and 10 others, who forcibly entered the house of Shahul Hamid and attacked the family members, including the pregnant woman and minor girl. Despite the presence of serious charges under the POCSO Act and attempted murder against the accused, the police arrested Shahul Hamid, the complainant, based on a false counter-complaint. The family remains under immense stress due to his arrest.

The women’s delegation appealed for the arrest of the perpetrators under the law and requested the Women’s Commission to investigate the matter thoroughly. They also urged authorities to direct the police to prevent such attacks on women in the future.

Prominent members of the delegation stated that Dr Nagalaxmi Chowdhury has assured action upon receiving the report on the incident. Ayesha, a member of the state committee, and Sumaiah, vice-president of Bengaluru district, were present during the submission of the appeal.
