Mangaluru, Dec 28: The eighth edition of the ‘Mangaluru Kambala’ was inaugurated at Bangra Kulur Gold Finch City on Saturday, December 28. The event, led by MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, kicked off with a grand ceremony.
Former managing director of MRPL, M Venkatesh, inaugurated the day-long Mangaluru Kambala. The event will continue until December 29, starting at 8 am at Goldfinch City.
In his inaugural address, M Venkatesh described Mangaluru Kambala as a celebration of culture, emphasizing the importance of preserving such traditions in society.
Among the dignitaries present were Garodi temple president K Chittharanjan, former MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, Sri Rajashekarananda Swamiji of Vajradehi Math Gurupura, Sri Yogananda Saraswathi Swamiji of Nithyananda Yogashrama Kondevuru, priest Anantha Padmanabha Asrana of Kateel Temple, former mayor Kavitha Sanil, MCC opposition leader Anil Kumar, corporator Kiran Kumar, and Mangalore University vice chancellor Prof P L Dharma.
The event is being held under the honorary presidency of Dr K Prakash Shetty, chairman of MRG Group, who has supported the Kambala for the past seven years.
A stage program is scheduled for 6 pm on Saturday, December 28, followed by the prize distribution on Sunday morning, December 29.
In addition to the Kambala races, a Color Koota will be organized for children in three categories: Rang Da Ellya (up to 5th standard), Rang Da Malla (up to 10th standard), and Rang Da Koota (general category). Other events include a Reel Competition and a Photography Competition.
