Illegal banners cause nuisance in Mangaluru, authorities urged to take action

Mangaluru, Dec 28: An illegal banner has been erected in a prominent area of Mangaluru, raising concerns among local authorities and residents.

The presence of such banners across the city has become a nuisance, disrupting vehicular movement and blocking the view at many traffic circles, making it difficult for drivers and riders to spot approaching vehicles.

In 2023, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) launched a drive to remove illegal banners, but many activists remain unhappy with the continued display of these materials across the city. Locations such as Pumpwell, KPT, State Bank, and Circuit House are especially overwhelmed with these banners.

The area around the Circuit House gates, where several delegates, officials, and politicians frequently visit for brief stays, is particularly cluttered with banners on either side of the gate, creating an unappealing sight.

Public representatives have repeatedly issued statements condemning the illegal banners and flex displays. However, the city continues to be adorned with such materials, largely put up by elected representatives or their supporters.

During the recent Lokayuktha visit, public complaints about illegal banners and flex displays flooded the phone-in programmes, yet no action was taken, nor was a drive initiated to remove them.

Who will bell the cat ? Nobody I guess has the guts to do it . If the poster was of any normal person then yes immediately it would have initiated action . Jai Hind This is also part of the SMART CITY program I guess . Instead of concentration on smart development these are the priority things done. For example yesterday and from 2 days have been trying to get a taxi or rickshaw online from 6 to 8 pm and just couldn't find one . Good going Smart City .......
