Mangaluru, Dec 30: The team behind the Konkani film Payann jubilantly celebrated its 100-day milestone at Bharat Cinema in Bejai, marking a significant achievement for Konkani regional cinema.
Addressing the gathering, member of the legislative council Ivan D’Souza lauded the efforts of the film’s creators and emphasized the importance of supporting Konkani cinema. “It is remarkable that a Konkani film has achieved 100 days of screening at a time when the global cinema industry faces challenges. Konkani films are produced not for profit but for the love of our mother tongue. Payann stands out as an artistic work that inspires positive thoughts, setting a new benchmark in Konkani cinema,” he said.
The event was graced by Fr Melwin Joseph Pinto, rector of St Aloysius Educational Institutions, along with non-resident businessman James Mendonca and Mand Sobhann president Louis J Pinto as guests of honour.
The director of Payann, Joel Pereira, fondly known as ‘Sangeet Guru,’ joined the celebrations on stage alongside Melwyn Peris and Neeta Peris of Sangeet Ghar Productions.
The success of Payann is seen as a triumph for Konkani culture and language, as the film resonates with audiences despite the challenges of a limited market and resources. The 100-day run is a testament to the dedication and passion of the team behind the film, who created it to celebrate and preserve the richness of Konkani heritage.
