Bantwal, Dec 30: A massive rush was witnessed at the B C Road Administrative Building in Bantwal on Monday morning as hundreds of people flooded the office to collect their ration cards. Long queues were formed outside and around the building as officials confirmed that the distribution of ration cards was underway.
The government had opened a window for corrections, name additions, cancellations, and address changes, with applications being accepted at private "Grama One" centres. Officials then processed the documents and distributed the cards at the Revenue Department's food division.
With over 100 people arriving to collect their cards, the office compound was packed. Around 300 tokens were issued for ration card collection, and by afternoon, more than 150 people had received theirs. Despite the heavy turnout, Food division officer Ravi assured that the distribution of ration cards would be completed smoothly by 4 pm.
Demand for extending deadline
Former Zilla Panchayat member M Tungappa Bangera called for an additional month to be granted for corrections and name updates.
