Ballari, Jan 2: Overcoming significant life challenges, Renuka Poojary, a transgender individual from Kudugodu town, has been appointed as a guest lecturer in Kannada at the Nandihalli postgraduate center of Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University.
Renuka is the first transgender in Karnataka to be appointed as a lecturer for postgraduate students. She is the daughter of agriculturists Mallaiah and Tippamma from Kurugodu town.
Renuka completed her high school education in her native town, pursued her pre-university studies at Ballary Municipal College, and later joined a government degree college. During this period, she became aware of the physical changes occurring in her body but bravely faced all the challenges. She went on to complete her MA in Kannada in 2022 and has now secured a position as a part-time lecturer.
Expressing her joy, Renuka shared, "I feel immensely happy to have reached this level after experiencing so many ups and downs. Rising after a fall brings great happiness. Vijayanagara University has boosted my morale. Completing my MA in 2022 and being appointed as a lecturer in 2025 is a dream come true."
The university's registrar, Rudresha, encouraged Renuka to apply for the part-time lecturer position. Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University has implemented a 1% reservation for gender minorities, under which Renuka was selected.
Registrar Rudresha noted that Renuka was chosen from among 30 applicants, adhering to university guidelines.
Despite societal biases against transgender individuals, Renuka Poojary has proven that they are capable of excelling in any field. She has emerged as a role model and an inspiration for others in the third-gender community.
