Mangaluru, Jan 4: The two-day "Kanda Mola" State-level Tuber, Turnip, and Green Leafy Mela 2025 began at Sanghanikethan on Saturday, January 4.
The Mela will continue on January 5. It is organised by the Savayava Krishika Grahakara Balaga, Mangaluru, under the auspices of Shri Saraswathi Charitable Trust (R) Puttur, a subsidiary of Shri Saraswathi Credit Souharda Sahakari Sangha Ltd., in collaboration with Keshava Smruthi Samvardana Samithi, Prathapa Nagara, Mangaluru, and several other organisations.
The event showcases over 350 varieties of tubers and turnips, along with 150 varieties of green leafy vegetables, sourced from various parts of the country, including Odisha, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh. Visitors have the opportunity to explore a wide range of tubers, turnips, and green leafy vegetables from across the state.
Some of the featured varieties include Black Turmeric, Laka Dong Turmeric, Black Ginger, Kastuei Manjal (Yellow Mango Ginger), Mattukachil, Para Kachil, Yella Kachil, Mattu Kachil, Chora Kachil, Pooda, Pal Chembu, Mukki Kizhag, Nana Kizhag, Karinthal, Veliyan Chemb, Bazhal Chemb, and Adathap Vella.
A special stall by Shaji NM, the "Tuber Man of Kerala," showcases a variety of yams, sweet potatoes, cassava, taro, and Chinese potatoes.
Alongside the tuber and turnip stalls, there are various other stalls offering food, masalas, ice creams, plants, and more. The Mela has drawn a large crowd, with an impressive turnout on its opening day.
