Mangaluru, Jan 4: The faithful gathered in large numbers to participate in a solemn votive procession held in preparation for the Annual Feast of Infant Jesus at Bikarnakatte. The procession, organized with great devotion and fervour, began from Holy Cross Church, Kulshekar, with a prayerful wish and blessings of Fr Clifford Fernandes, parish priest of Kulshekar, accompanied by Fr Paul and Dn Nishith.

The shrine director, Fr Stephen Pereira, OCD, extended a warm welcome to all devotees. The official commencement of the procession was marked by the waving of the flag by Roy Rodrigues, PRO of the diocese of Mangalore, along with Fr Melwyn D'Cunha, OCD.

Devotees carrying offerings and participating in prayers created a spiritual atmosphere throughout the journey. As the procession reached the premises of the Infant Jesus Shrine at Bikarnakatte, a unique interfaith programme titled 'Sahaballve' was organized. The 'Sahaballve' programme aimed to share the faith experiences of people from different religions and promote harmonious living.

Esteemed speakers of the day, Ivan D’Souza, MLC; Rafiq, a dedicated social worker; and Sunil Kumar Bajal, a social activist, shared insightful perspectives on fostering unity and coexistence in a diverse society. Prominent guests gracing the event included Fr Clifford Fernandes, parish priest of Kulshekar Church; Fr Dominic Vas, parish priest of Bajjodi; Keshav, corporator of Maroli Ward; Naveen, corporator of Bendure Ward; and Stany Alvares, president of the Karnataka Sahitya Academy.

Later, Fr Melwyn D. Cunha, superior of St Joseph's Monastery, Carmel Hill, blessed and hoisted the Infant Jesus flag, officially inaugurating the annual feast. The votive procession and the 'Sahaballve' program reflected the commitment of the Infant Jesus Shrine and its devotees to spiritual enrichment and communal harmony.
