Udupi, Jan 5: A couple has been accused of forging documents to secure a Rs 45 lac loan from the Katapady Cooperative Bank.

The accused, identified as Riyanat Banu and her husband Numan Ismail, had taken the loan with Dinesh and Rajesh acting as guarantors. The couple paid only three instalments before defaulting on the repayment.

Bank staff grew suspicious when the couple stopped repayments. Upon verifying the documents submitted for the loan with government authorities, it was discovered that the documents were forged, and the signatures of government officials had also been faked.

Moideen D Khan, the chief manager of the Katapady Cooperative Bank branch, filed a complaint at the Kaup police station, leading to a case being registered against the couple.

Further investigations are underway.
