Udupi: Young couple’s bike hit by container lorry, woman succumbs to injuries

Udupi, Jan 6: In a tragic accident, a container lorry collided with a bike carrying a young couple, resulting in the death of the pillion rider, Nagaveni (30), on January 5.

Satish (33) and his wife Nagaveni, residents of Bolamballi, Byndoor, were traveling towards Manipal on a motorcycle via National Highway 66. At around 4.30 pm, as they approached Shettigar Industries in Heroor village of Brahmavar taluk, a speeding and reckless container lorry bearing registration number KL-07-DC-6401 veered to the extreme left and hit the motorcycle's right handle.

The impact caused the couple to fall off the bike onto the road. Satish sustained injuries to his arm and thigh, while Nagaveni suffered severe head, facial, and left shoulder injuries. Despite being rushed to a private hospital in Brahmavar for treatment, Nagaveni succumbed to her injuries at around 6.30 pm.

The container lorry driver fled the scene without stopping the vehicle.

A case has been registered at Brahmavar police station.
