Mangaluru, Jan 7: A 21-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly attempting to throw mobile phones and cigarettes into the district prison premises in the city.

The accused, identified as Prajwal, a resident of Panjimogaru, was caught near the main gate of Canara College around 3 pm on Sunday. He was seen trying to toss sealed bundles, wrapped in red tape, over the prison boundary.

KSISF personnel who noticed his actions quickly detained him. Upon inspection, the bundles were found to contain two keypad mobile phones and two packets of cigarettes.

It has been revealed that Prajwal was previously imprisoned in connection with another case. The Barke police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations.
