Mangaluru: Yenepoya Dental College organizes 2-day workshop

Mangaluru, Jan 7: The department of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Yenepoya Dental College organised a 2-day workshop ‘Planning and Execution of Orthognathic Surgery 2.0’ on January 3 and 4. Dr Sherry Peter and Dr Latha P Rao, consultant craniofacial surgeons from Aster Medcity, Kochi, were the resource persons.

The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr Manjunath Rai, head of the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery, AJ Institute of Dental Sciences, guest of honor Dr Akhter Husain, director, center for craniofacial anomalies, principal of Yenepoya Dental College and presiding officer Dr Laxmikanth Chatra, dean faculty of dentistry Dr Sham S Bhat, resource person Dr Sherry Peter, head of the department Dr Jagadish Chandra and Dr Vinayakrishna Kolari.

Dr Manjunath Rai addressed the gathering and spoke about the evolution of orthognathic surgery and the importance of precision in performing orthognathic surgeries. Dr Jagadish Chandra, head of the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery was the organising chairman, Dr. Joyce Sequeira the scientific chairman and Dr Vinayakrishna the organizing secretary. Dr Varsha Upadya and Dr Ramya. A compered the event.

The first day included lectures on evaluation and orthognathic surgery planning along with hands-on training on cephalometric analysis. Day 2 included lectures on various corrective surgical procedures and hands on osteotomy and fixation procedures on simulation models.

A total of 72 postgraduate students and 10 faculty members from the host and neighboring institutions participated in the workshop.
