Mangaluru, Jan 7: District health officer (DHO) Dr Thimmaiah has urged the public not to panic about the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), assuring that it is not severe and the mortality rate remains effectively zero.
Explaining the nature of the virus, Dr Thimmaiah stated, “HMPV is a respiratory virus that has existed for a long time. It typically causes upper respiratory infections, much like the common cold. The public should consider it a routine virus and not be alarmed.”
He further advised the public to stay vigilant and refrain from believing or spreading unverified information circulating on social media or in media reports. “It is crucial to avoid sharing unconfirmed news about the HMPV virus. If you come across such information online, consult experts for clarification,” he added.
Dr Thimmaiah reiterated that the government has already issued necessary guidelines and emphasized there is no need for panic.
