Udupi, Jan 7: The Santhekatte service road, a crucial route for vehicles heading towards Kundapur, has been opened for traffic starting January 7.
Following directions from MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, authorities expedited the completion of the service road to ensure it was operational for commuters. This development is expected to significantly improve traffic flow by alleviating congestion near the ongoing underpass construction site.
The service road is now open to light vehicles on both sides, with buses and other vehicles traveling from Kemmannu-Hoode also being diverted onto it. Heavy vehicles, however, will continue to use the underpass, creating a more organized and efficient traffic system. This arrangement is particularly beneficial for commuters and students who rely on timely transportation.
To ensure safety, retention walls have been constructed along the service road to prevent vehicles from nearing the edges. Where retention walls are incomplete, temporary barricades have been installed to safeguard commuters.
The opening of the service road not only relieves traffic congestion but also accelerates the progress of the underpass construction. By diverting vehicles to the service road, uninterrupted work on the underpass can continue. The bridge connecting both sides of the service road is also under construction, with the foundation already laid on one half of the underpass while keeping the other half open for traffic.
