Mangaluru: Tannirbhavi beach selected for 'One Nation - One Destination’ initiative

Mangaluru, Jan 8: The Tannirbhavi Blue Flag Beach in Mangaluru, selected under the 'One Nation - One Destination' initiative, has completed its development works. The tender process for managing the beach for the next 10 years is in its final stages, according to deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan.

Addressing the media in the city, the deputy commissioner also revealed that a tender for the management of another beach in Tannirbhavi will be floated soon.

The Blue Flag Beach project received a funding of Rs 7.59 crore from the union ministry of environment, forest, and climate change and Rs 7 crore from Mangaluru Smart City. Various facilities have been provided as part of the project. Under the maintenance contract, contractors will be required to pay Rs 50 lac in the first year, increasing to Rs 2 crore by the 10th year. Additionally, they will have to adhere to the entry fee fixed by the district tourism committee.

Meanwhile, the management contract for the first beach in Tannirbhavi has expired, and fresh tenders for its management will be called for shortly.

    They have started charging Rs 20 per person just to enter the beach, and in a few months, they might charge Rs 10 per hour to breathe the fresh air here. The contractors now making money from this public beach; public should prohibit fees to enter this beach.

    As a first step to towards developing the beach, we need to broaden the road at least to the extent of double the present size. Next step is to Increases the parking capacity a d not allow people to park their cars on the roadside. Keep unifor.ity in the the size of the stalls so that the place looks beautiful.

    Thannirbhavi can still be renovated with modern designs, transforming it into a Corniche-style beach featuring walkways, play areas, and a park where families can relax and enjoy meals together on weekends.
