Mangaluru, Jan 8: A tragic incident occurred at the beach near Kulai Jetty on Wednesday, January 8, where four young men, who had gone into the sea for a swim, got into trouble. Three of them drowned, and one was rescued by local fishermen.
The deceased have been identified as:
- M. S. Manjunath (31), son of Shivlingappa, from Upparigenahalli, Chitradurga district,
- Shivakumar (30) from Shivamogga district, and
- Satyavelu (30) from JP Nagar, Bengaluru.
Parameshwara (30), from Hangarga, Bidar district, managed to survive the incident.
The bodies of Shivakumar, Satyavelu, and Manjunath were found at the right side of the jetty. The bodies were sent to the AJ Hospital in the city.
All four young men were students of AMC Engineering College in Bengaluru and were close friends. They had left Bengaluru by car on Tuesday night and reached Mangaluru on Wednesday morning.
After having breakfast at a hotel, they headed to Kulai Jetty in the afternoon. While they were playing in the sea, all four got caught in the water. Although local fishermen tried to rescue them, three of the young men drowned before help could arrive. One of them was saved and rushed to the hospital immediately.
Upon receiving the news, the Surathkal police arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation.
The bodies were examined and sent to the hospital for post-mortem.
A case has been registered at the Surathkal Police Station in connection with the incident.
