Udupi, Jan 9: Residents of Udupi and neighbouring areas are grappling with significant inconvenience following the suspension of MESCOM ATM services for electricity bill payments. The disruption has sparked widespread public outrage over perceived inefficiency and poor management.
People from regions like Manipal, Kunjibettu, Parkala, Hiriyadka, Moodubelle, Udyavar, Puttur, and Udupi city are particularly affected. Long queues outside MESCOM offices have become routine, forcing residents to wait for hours to pay their bills. Many have had to take time off work to make these payments, disrupting their daily lives.
The suspension has been especially difficult for senior citizens, with reports of individuals falling ill while standing in lengthy queues. The absence of alternative payment solutions has left residents increasingly frustrated.
Nityananda Volakadu, convener of the Udupi District Civic Committee, has called for urgent action from MESCOM authorities. He has demanded the immediate reinstatement of ATM services to relieve the public's distress.
