Mangalore, Dec 31: It rained records at the release function of “Vozram Motiam”, the ambitious music album of Mandd Sobhann which is also touted as the ‘richest Konkani song album ever’, held this morning at ‘Chefs”, Kadri, in the presence of music lovers and well wishers.

Mandd Sobhann which always does things in a unique way with a stamp of its own, broke a few more records today. The album is being released at 70 places all over the world today, which is a record in the history of Konkani music. Mandd Sobhann created another record by selling 1472 CD’s at the venue of the release which includes booking and counter sales of Vozram Motiam and by this set another record of selling more CD’s on a single day at the release venue as compared to any other Konkani album sold in one year.

The music album which has a treasure of 12 Konkani songs of well-known poets, the music for which is by Eric Ozario, was released by Ronald Mendonca, Chairman of Kalaangann, along with Mandd Sobhann Gurkar Eric Ozario and President Stany Alvares.

Speaking prior to the release of the album Eric Ozario pointed out that he is proud to say “Vozram Motiam” is the richest album not only it terms of money spent but also in the form of inclusion of lyrics of reputed poets, the music, the singing and voices used for singing. “Music is our passion and Mandd Sobhann has always been doing things in a distinctive manner. It is a passion, an itch that finds gratification only in the form bringing out best music. This album is the result of our labour of love. I am proud to say it is the richest Konkani music album ever”, he stated.

Pointing out that Mandd Sobhann has set a record by releasing the album in 70 places all over the world in a day not just for the sake of creating records but as a form of publicity to market the album. He lamented that usually in Konkani albums the spent is not recovered largely due to a lackadaisical approach towards marketing. “By doing this publicity we are building a marketing network which will also prove beneficial to other Konkani albums by making marketing easier for them”, he declared. Eric Ozario also thanked all the well wishers and sponsors, without whose support he said he could not have brought out a CD spending Rs. 5 lakhs. He thanked Ronald Colaco, who he said has borne almost 2/5 of the expenses of the album. Eric Ozario also said that the CD is priced at  Rs 125, and out of the sale proceedings per CD Rs 30 will go to the seller, Rs 45 to Konkani Prachar Sanchalan and Rs 50 to Mandd Sobhann.

On this occasion, Mandd Sobhann felicitated all those who contributed their might in the making of the album. Eric Ozario had a special word of appreciation for Cajethan Dias, the music arranger, who he said had worked untiringly for 2 ½ years in putting together 40 artistes for the album. Cajethan was presented by a bouquet of flowers by President Stany Alvares. Others who were felicitated on the occasion include Darrel Mascarenhus, Joel Rebello, singers Prakash D Souza, Lavita Lobo, lyricist Melvyn Rodrigues, Yashwanth D S, recordist Loy Saldanha and Royston and Justline who have taken the responsibility of internet marketing and CD cover designer Caroline Pinto.

Melvyn Rodrigues Honoured

The other function planned by Mandd Sobhann in the same venue was the honouring of Konkani poet and writer Melvyn Rodrigues, who has been selected for the Kendra Sahitya Academy Award for the year 2011. Titus Noronha recalled that of the four Konkani poets who are the recipients of this award so far, three of them namely Cha Fra D Cost, J B Sequeira and now Melvyn Rodrigues are connected with Mandd Sobhann in some way or the other and said “we consider it as a honour for Mandd Sobhann also”. Melvyn Rodrigues is one of the co-founders of Mandd Sobhann.

Titus Noronha read a citation highlighting the contributions of Melvyn for the growth of Konkani and gave a brief account of his literary contributions. Melvyn was honoured by James Mendonca, President of Mangalore Konkans with a shawl, garland, memento and flowers.

Responding to the honour Melvyn Rodrigues said that Mandd Sobhann is the only organization which has always been in the forefront in responding to situations relating to Konkani, be it good, bad or in answering or responding to challenging questions and mysteries. “I am happy to get this award. I am happy to know that 3 of my songs are included in this album Vozram Motiam. But I am worried by a kind of fear that I might be crushed under the burden of the honours that might be bestowed on me. I received this award for my poetry and I would be the happiest person if more and more people read my poetry, try to understand and follow it as much as possible. That would give me more happiness and contentment than mere honoring”, he declared.

Pointing out that many talented people are deprived of due recognition Melvyn said he has written a poem on Marsyas of Greek mythology for such people and went on to narrate the poem.

Rohan Monteiro of Property Real Estate unveiled the painting of Wilson Kayyar, which was painted after listening to the first song of the album “Kanto”, which is tuned to the lyrics of Cha Fra.

The final event of the day was the muhurat of the “Vozram Motiam” Ballet and Song Video. NRI businessman Leo Rodrigues clapped the mohurat shot of the video.

Earlier, the assembled guests were treated to a delicious breakfast served at the “Chefs” which was like a starter to the main course of dinner in the form of the release of the album and other events.

I think Mr James has not understood the message of eric ozario. 1472 CDs sold in Mangalore inauguration function..and atleast 3-4000 CDs were expected to sell during releasing day all over the world (Over 70 loactions). If you combine them, it will cross 5000..is not a record? Tell me which Konkani CD has sold more than 3000 in a single year? I support Eric's statement. And Mandd Sobhann is always trend setter..in this case also they did! congrats bab Eric

A great news to read regarding the release and sales. Could we have the locations of 70 releases so that we too can have a copy of it today and increase the record quantity. I had been to the regular music store today but the copy is still not available. Please . I've also ordered online but no response yet. Then how can this be considered as one day sales?

Hats off to Mandd Sobbhan. Baab Eric is known to break recrods and congratulations to him and his team. The only comment I have as a Konkani lover is on the below statement in the report 'Mandd Sobhann created another record by selling 1472 CD’s at the venue of the release which includes booking and counter sales of Vozram Motiam and by this set another record of selling more CD’s on a single day at the release venue as compared to any other Konkani album sold in one year'. What figures Mandd Sobhan has to claim that others are not selling that many CDs in one year??? If a reputed organization like this has no proof then they schould not give such reports. Even if they give a repurted website like daiji shoudl werify this report. Good luck to Mandd Sobhann.
