Shimoga: Foeticide - Criminal Charges Against 4 Doctors, Hospital License Cancelled

Shimoga, Jan 1: A criminal case has been registered against four doctors of Vivekananda Private Hospital following the awful incident wherein 24 aborted foetuses were found abandoned on the roadside here on Friday December 30.
The district administration will also take strict action against the hospital for the cruel act. As a first step, the hospital license has been cancelled.
The four doctors against whom the criminal charge has been registered are hospital head Dr Mahendrappa, Dr Bharathi, Dr Shamala and Dr Kilavaani. The Indian Medical Association will also be requested to take action against the hospital.
When the deputy commissioner Ponnuraj interacted with the media persons it was leant that the hospital is running a scanning centre going against the law. This also has prompted for the criminal charge against the hospital.
When the 24 foetuses were examined it was found that 5 among them were males and 15 were females. The gender of rest four could not be determined.
Other Authorized Complaints
A case has been lodged against the Vivekananda Private Hospital at Jayanagar police station by the Health department. The complaints have been registered under Medical Termination of Pregnancy and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques section.
Auto-rickshaw Driver Held
For dumping the dead foetuses in the public area, the police have arrested a goods auto driver. On interrogation he has revealed to the police that Vivekananda Hospital people had instructed him to throw them somewhere.
