Udupi, Jan 14: As part of the centenary and post-centenary celebrations of the Udupi Bar Association and courts, the Udupi Lawyers’ Association is organizing a state-level floodlit cricket, volleyball, throwball, and shuttle badminton tournament. The events will be held on March 1 and 2 at the ALN Rao ground, MGM College, Udupi.
The tournament brochure was unveiled by Udupi principal sistrict and sessions judge Kiran S Gangannavar, in the presence of principal senior civil judge and chief judicial magistrate, Purushotham M.
Principal district and sessions judge Kiran S Gangannavar said, "This court is organizing many events and addressing issues from different sectors such as sports, health, and more. Sports are important for everyone because they help maintain physical and mental well-being. Sportsmanship fosters overall character development and equips us to face challenges both mentally and physically. Not only law associations but all organizations should encourage participation in sports."
Cricket tournament for men
The winning team will receive Rs 1,11,111 along with a permanent trophy, while the runners-up will be awarded Rs 55,555 and a permanent trophy. Teams securing the third and fourth positions will receive Rs 25,555 and Rs11,111, respectively, along with permanent trophies.
Volleyball tournament for men
The winning team will be awarded Rs 66,666 along with a permanent trophy, and the runners-up will receive Rs 33,333 with a trophy. The third-placed team will be honored with Rs 22,222 and a permanent trophy.
Throwball tournament for women
The winners will receive Rs 33,333 and a permanent trophy, while the runners-up and third-place teams will be awarded Rs 22,222 and Rs 11,111, respectively, along with trophies.
Shuttle badminton tournament
In the men’s and women’s shuttle badminton competitions, the winning team will receive Rs 11,111 along with a permanent trophy, and the runners-up will be awarded Rs 6,666 with a trophy. Individual prizes will also be presented to the best players in each category.
The tournament will be inaugurated on March 1 at 4 PM by supreme court justice B V Nagarathna. The event will be presided over by Karnataka high court chief justice N V Anjaria. Other notable guests include Karnataka high court justices E S Indiresh and Rajesh Rai K, along with Dr H S Ballal, pro-chancellor of MAHE, and Udupi principal District and sessions Judge, Kiran S Gangannavar.
The closing ceremony will be held on March 2 at 7 PM. Karnataka State Bar Council member P P Hegde will deliver the valedictory address. The event will be presided over by Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, with Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna as the chief guest. Prizes will be distributed to the winning teams during the closing ceremony.
The announcement was made during a press conference attended by Udupi Bar Association president Reynold Praveen Kumar, vice-president Mithra Kumar Shetty, general secretary Rajesh A R, cultural secretary Santosh Kumar Moodubelle, sports secretary Sumith S Hegde, treasurer Gangadhar H M, and joint secretary Ravindra Bailur, along with various subcommittee coordinators and event in-charge members.
