Udupi: Rain disrupts Sankranti celebrations in district

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Jan 14: Udupi district witnessed rainfall in several areas, disrupting the much-anticipated Sankranti festivities. The showers also posed challenges to the chariot festival (Rathotsava) at the Udupi Shri Krishna Math. Thunder and lightning accompanied the rain, adding to the disruptions.

The unpredictable weather is attributed to cyclonic effects in the eastern sea and atmospheric disturbances over the Bay of Bengal, impacting the western coastal regions.

Several areas in Udupi, including Karkala, Hebri, and Kaup, experienced heavy rainfall, with thunder and lightning recorded in Karkala and Hebri. Meanwhile, light to moderate rain was observed in parts of Udupi and Kaup taluks.

The meteorological department has issued a forecast for continued rainfall over the next two days.

Rains in the coastal region come any time all the time. Strangely tomorrow's forecast says it will rain in Maharashtra too. Mangalore and Maharashtra are like brothers and sisters ... both have identical climate.
