Bantwal, Jan 15: A diesel-loaded tanker overturned near Kudrebettu, close to Kalladka, on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway, leading to a diesel spill and causing traffic disruption for over an hour on January 14.
Fortunately, the driver escaped unhurt in the incident. The tanker, carrying diesel from Mangaluru to Chennai, reportedly overturned into a roadside drain after the driver mistakenly drove against the direction on the Kalladka service road. The overturn caused a small puncture in the tanker, resulting in a diesel leak and creating a tense atmosphere in the surrounding area for a while.
Traffic was already challenging in the area due to ongoing roadwork, and the tanker accident exacerbated the situation, causing vehicles to queue up for nearly an hour.
Traffic SI Suthesh arrived at the scene, arranged for a crane, and cleared the overturned tanker from the road, restoring traffic flow by 1.30 pm. The incident, which occurred around 12 pm, disrupted traffic until the road was cleared.
