Udupi, Jan 15: Deputy commissioner Dr Vidya Kumari and superintendent of police Dr K Arun visited and inspected the Indrali bridge construction site on National Highway 169A, which remains incomplete even after the stipulated deadline.

The construction of the Indrali Bridge, initiated seven years ago, had faced severe public outrage, prompting the contractor to provide a written assurance at the Udupi Traffic Police Station to complete the work by January 15. However, despite the deadline ending today, the work remains unfinished.

Speaking to media, deputy commissioner Dr Vidya Kumari stated, "The work is in progress, but the lack of space to deploy additional JCBs and the challenges posed by the nearby power lines and vehicular traffic have necessitated a cautious and slow-paced execution. Despite these obstacles, we have instructed the concerned parties to complete the project within a month."

She further elaborated that the girder installation process would take an additional 10 days, after which the bridge assembly would be undertaken. During the installation, rail traffic would need to be suspended for a day, and the electricity supply in the area would also have to be temporarily halted. Correspondence regarding these requirements has already been made with the railway department, she added.
