Udupi: Swami Vishwavallabha Theertha Gets Rousing Welcome at 'Pura Pravesha'

Udupi, Jan 2: Sri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swami of Shree Sode Mutt, who will ascend the ‘Paryaya Peetha’on Wednesday January 18, was given a rousing reception on his ‘Pura Pravesha’ on Monday January 2.
A large number of people gathered to welcome the Swami. The procession began from Jodukatte at about 5 pm. The head of the Shree Sode Mutt sat on a decorated palanquin carrying the presiding deity of the Mutt.
The procession passed through taluk office, Diana Circle, Kolada Pete, Thenku Pete and culminated at Car Street. Traditionally dressed folk artistes and others added color to the procession. The teams that participated in the procession included a women’s ‘Chande’ troupe from Udupi, men’s ‘Chande’ troupe from Kerala, ‘Markal Kunitha’ and ‘Dollu Kunitha’ performers, band-sets, people carrying colorful umbrellas, ‘Veeragase’, giant dancing dolls, and ‘bhajan’ teams. Behind these teams were vehicles carrying portraits of deities. ‘Veda Ghosha’ by students lent a feel of ‘Holi’ to the procession.
After the procession culminated at Car Street, Sri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swami had ‘darshan’ of Lord Krishna through the ‘Kanakana Kindi’.
He then visited the temples of Sri Chandramouleshwara, Sri Ananteshwara, and Sri Krishna and offered prayers to the deities. He was greeted by Sri Laxmivara Theertha Swami of Shree Shiroor Mutt at the entrance to Shree Krishna Mutt.
Sri Vishwavallabha Theertha then came to the entrance of Shree Sode Mutt and offered ‘Navagraha Daana’ to the ‘Diwans’ of all the Mutts and offered prayers before entering his Mutt. Also www.sodevadirajamutt.in was launched.
The city municipal corporation organized a public felicitation programme from 8.15 pm onwards. Raghupati Bhat, MLA, Kiran Kumar, president of city municipality, and Gokuldas Nayak, city municipal commissioner, were present.
