Sullia, Jan 18: A distressing incident unfolded in Sullia where a man reportedly murdered his wife and later ended his own life. The complaint in the case was filed by Prashanth S R (26), a resident of Kodimajalu House, Nellurkemraje village, Sullia.
According to Prashanth's complaint, his father, Ramachandra Gowda, had a habitual drinking problem. On the night of January 17, after excessive alcohol consumption, Ramachandra returned home and engaged in verbal abuse directed at Prashanth's grandparents and mother.
Around 11:30 pm, he reportedly had a heated argument with his wife, Vinoda Kumari, in the under-construction kitchen of their house. In a fit of rage, he allegedly shot her dead using a firearm and later consumed rubber acid, resulting in his death.
A case has been registered at the Sullia police station under Crime No. 09/2025, with charges under Section 103 of the IPC and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
Western Range inspector general of police Amit Singh, IPS, and district superintendent of police Yatish N, IPS, visited the scene to conduct an investigation into the incident. Further inquiries are underway.
