Mangaluru: Malemar Derebail residents struggle as drainage water floods homes

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Jan 21: Residents of Malemar Derebail have been struggling for the past five days as drainage water has flooded their front yards, causing severe inconvenience.

This situation highlights the negligence of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) in addressing long-standing issues in the area. Despite the residents raising the problem over the past five years, there has been no response from the authorities or representatives.

The drainage water continues to overflow, leaving the surroundings reeking of foul odours. One house is particularly affected, with drainage water entirely surrounding it.

During the monsoon, rainwater used to flood this house, but now it is drainage water that has invaded the premises. With diseases like malaria and dengue prevalent during this season, the situation poses a significant health risk to the residents.

The concerned authorities must be held accountable for this negligence, which has forced residents to endure such dire consequences. The persistent drainage issue in Mangaluru has long been a problem, with the MCC failing to resolve it effectively. This negligence has now led to contamination of drinking water, worsening the plight of residents.

It is imperative for the MCC and the local corporator to step in and take immediate action to resolve the issue and prevent further health and environmental hazards.
