Udupi: MAHE, WGSHA organises 'Korea Culinary Boot Camp: Experiencing Indian Food & Culture'

Media Release

Udupi, Jan 21: An incredible initiative called the “Korea Culinary Boot Camp: Experiencing Indian Food and Culture”, hosted by Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA), Manipal, marks the beginning of the dynamic cultural and culinary exchange with the students at Korea Global Chef High School (KGCH).

The visionary dream of the late Dr T M A Pai to bridge cultures, foster creativity, and nurture global citizenship with the power of education inspired this event to bring out the fusion of Indian and Korean cultures and showcase the commitment to fostering international collaboration and learning.

The event has honoured Dr Pai’s philosophy, which initiated the foundation for an institution that values global connections, by highlighting the efforts and commitment to create a world where education is a vehicle for cultural exchange and mutual understanding. Dr Pai’s philosophy and beliefs continue to thrive through events like the Korea Culinary Boot Camp.

The function began with an invocation and opening address by Dr Rajshekhar P - principal of WGSHA. Dr Narayana Sabhahit, pro vice-chancellor MAHE, Manipal, inaugurated the event and shared his thoughts,

“Today’s ceremony is a shining and a major example of how food unites people across borders. The Korea Culinary Boot Camp is not just about learning new recipes but also about understanding, accepting, and appreciating each other’s cultures through the universal language of cuisine. Events like these play a crucial role in fostering global friendships and nurturing the new generation of chefs to carry the spirit of international collaboration forward,” he said.

The programme highlights the history and significance of Indian food in everyday life by conducting hands-on cooking sessions and workshops on traditional Indian spices and herbs with the expert chefs at WGSHA.

The boot camp is a dynamic platform offering an unforgettable experience for students from Korea Global Chef High School to delve into the diverse and rich Indian culinary traditions and learn about Indian cuisine’s authentic flavours, ingredients, and cooking techniques.

Kim Joo Nam, faculty coordinator, at Korea Global Chef High School appreciated the initiative taken by WGSHA and MAHE to celebrate food and culture and said, “As the Faculty coordinator from Korea, I am deeply impressed by the tremendous efforts of Manipal Academy in organising the Korea Culinary Boot Camp. This event establishes mutual respect and global understanding through education. This initiative will provide valuable insights to our students that would extend their knowledge beyond the kitchen.”

The initiative is a step towards strengthening ties between India and Korea. The event not only encourages the purpose of building up the bond between the two countries through the universal language of love i.e. food, but also cultivates a global community where one can learn, connect, and celebrate the rich tapestry of culinary traditions bringing people closer.
