Mangaluru: St Agnes College organizes outreach programme at Mussanje

Media Release

Mangaluru, Jan 23: The department of clinical psychology at St Agnes Centre for Postgraduate Studies and Research planned an interesting and informative visit for first-year clinical psychology students to Mussanje, an old age home run by the Louis Mendonca Memorial Trust.

Louis Mendonca Memorial Trust is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing comfort and dignity to loved ones with severe illnesses and the elderly nearing their end of life.

Mussanje, a palliative care facility under LMMT, provides personalized support to terminally ill and elderly individuals, focusing on medical, personal, and social services.

The day began with the group introducing themselves and briefing the purpose of the visit to the inhabitants of the old age home. A short word association game was conducted as an ice-breaker activity.

A shared activity of origami building was conducted wherein the elderly at the care home folded paper cranes with the help of instructions given by the students. Following this, psychological assessments such as the dementia rating scale, PGI memory scale and geriatric functional rating scale was conducted on few of the elderly inmates.

The session was warm, interactive and helped the students understand the intricacies of caregiving, rapport building and teamwork.
