Udupi, Jan 23: The 15th flower and fruit exhibition 2025 to be held from January 25 to 27 at the horticulture department flower auction centre (Farmer Service Centre) premises, Shivalli, said deputy commissioner Dr K Vidyakumari, to the media in the press conference held on January 23.
The event is jointly organized by the Udupi district administration, zilla panchayat and the department of horticulture, Udupi.
The exhibition will be inaugurated on January 25, at 9.30 am by Lakshmi Hebbalkar, minister for women and child development, empowerment of differently abled and senior citizens and Udupi district in-charge minister. MLA Yashpal A Suvarna will preside over the event. The event will be attended by MPs Kota Shrinivas Poojary and B Y Raghavendra, MLAs Sunil Kumar, Gururaj Gantihole, Kiran Kumar Kodgi, and Gurme Suresh Shetty, MLCs S L Bhoje Gowda, Manjunath Bhandary, and Dhananjay Sarji, DC Dr K Vidyakumari, zilla panchayat CEO Pratheek Bayal, SP Dr Arun K and other dignitaries.
The exhibition will see display of over 7,000 plants featuring 23 varieties, including Petunia, Celosia, Salvia, Chrysanthemum, Marigold, Zinnia, China Aster, Balsam, and more. Additionally, artistic installations will be created using 1,25,000 flowers such as roses, chrysanthemums, orchids, and lilies, displays representing Karnataka government's five guarantees namely Anna Bhagya, Gruha Lakshmi, Gruha Jyothi, Shakti, and Yuva Nidhi, also a floral replica of Karnataka to mark Suvarna Karnataka celebrations.
The special attraction of the event is a selfie zone made of flowers, exhibitions of ornamental plants and potted flowers and model terrace garden and kitchen gardens.
Workshop on terrace garden setup and maintenance on January 25 and seminar on suitable horticultural crops for coastal Karnataka will be held on January 26.
Various departments, including agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, DAY-NRLM, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, and banks, will set up stalls showcasing government schemes and initiatives. The sale of nursery plants, agricultural tools, and equipment will also be organized.
Unique fruits, vegetables, and crops grown by local farmers will be displayed. Interested farmers can register their entries at the flower auction centre in Shivalli by 3 pm on January 24.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 10 am to 8 pm daily. Farmers, students, and residents of Udupi district are encouraged to visit and participate in the grand event.
