Udupi, Jan 23: As part of MAHE's visionary initiative declaring 2025 as the "Year of Excellence in Industry-Academia Collaborations," the Department of Mechatronics, MIT Manipal, in collaboration with C-DAC, Bengaluru, successfully hosted a 5-days Bootcamp on Unmanned Aerial Systems (Drone Electronics) from January 13 to 17, 2025. This initiative aligns with the establishment of the Research Lab (CoE) in Unmanned Aerial Systems, emphasizing MAHE's commitment to innovation and industry-academia synergy.

The Bootcamp featured theory sessions in the morning and practical hands-on sessions in the afternoon, providing participants with a balanced learning experience. The event was meticulously planned under the guidance of Dr D V Kamath, professor and head of the Department of Mechatronics, who delivered the welcome address during the inaugural function.

The event was graced by Dr. Harish S. Kumar, director-corporate relations, MAHE, as the chief guest, and Harish Chandra, knowledge associate, C-DAC Bengaluru, as the guest of honour.

The trainers— Amaljith H, Praveen Mounabhargav, Arpita Gupta and Harish Chandra—conducted engaging and insightful sessions throughout the workshop.

Participants gained expertise in various aspects of drone technology, including DGCA regulations, drone classification, communication protocols, frame design using CAD tools, and assembly.

A highlight of the Bootcamp was the hands-on experience of assembling and flying drones, which participants found both exciting and enriching. The participants were enthusiastic and shared highly positive feedback, appreciating the opportunity to engage in practical drone operations. Dr Sudarshan, executive director of C-DAC, visited on Day 3 and interacted with participants, sharing valuable insights on drone technology's potential in addressing real-world challenges. Over 80 participants, including students from BTech (Mechatronics) 4th semester benefited from this immersive learning experience.

The programme concluded with a valedictory function. Dr Deepak D, professor and head (i/c) of the Department of Mechatronics, delivered the welcome address, appreciating the active involvement of participants and trainers. Dr Mohammad Zuber, chief innovation officer, MAHE, graced the occasion as the chief guest and delivered an inspiring speech. Gifts were distributed as tokens of appreciation, and the event concluded with a vote of thanks.
