During custodial interrogation, accused Murugandi Thevar disclosed crucial details about the crime’s planning and execution. He revealed that in November 2024, he, Yosuva Rajendran, and a local associate, Shashi Thevar, met at Ajji Nadaka near the bank within Ullal Police Station limits.

At this meeting, Shashi Thevar allegedly brought a firearm and shared details about security lapses, aiding in the robbery’s planning. Murugandi further claimed that Shashi had hidden the weapon at the spot.
Acting on this input, a police team comprising the Ullal inspector, a sub-inspector, and two constables proceeded to Ajjinadaka on Saturday along with Murugandi Thevar for evidence recovery and panchnama.
However, upon reaching the location, Murugandi suddenly attacked constable Manjunath, striking him in his private parts and attempting to strangle him with the restraint chain before making a bid to escape.
In response, the Ullal inspector fired a warning shot into the air. As Murugandi continued to flee despite the warning, a second shot was fired below his knee to stop him.
Following the incident, both constable Manjunath and accused Murugandi Thevar were immediately shifted to Yenepoya Hospital for medical treatment. Both are reported to be out of danger and receiving necessary care.
A separate case will be registered regarding this incident, and further investigation is underway.
