Jamshedpur FC stuns FC Goa 3-1, climbs to second spot in ISL

Jamshedpur, Feb 3: Jamshedpur FC delivered a stellar performance to defeat FC Goa 3-1 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 on Sunday. With this victory, head coach Khalid Jamil became the first to complete a league double over Manolo Marquez, having already secured a 2-1 win in their previous encounter on September 17.

The win propelled Jamshedpur FC to second place in the standings with 34 points, overtaking FC Goa, who now sit third with 33 points.

Lazar Cirkovic opened the scoring in the 34th minute with a stunning strike into the top right corner, giving the Men of Steel an early lead. Three minutes later, Mohammed Sanan’s dazzling run inside the box led to a goal by Javi Siverio, who capitalized on a rebound to double Jamshedpur’s advantage.

FC Goa responded just before halftime, with Ayush Dev Chhetri slotting in a precise finish after a brilliant assist from Brison Fernandes, reducing the deficit to 2-1. The visitors pushed for an equalizer in the second half, coming close through Mohammed Yasir, whose shot struck the crossbar in the 57th minute.

However, Jamshedpur FC sealed the win in the 68th minute when substitute Mobashir Rahman’s well-placed corner found Siverio, who headed the ball into the top left corner for his second goal of the match.

With this crucial victory, Jamshedpur FC strengthened their title push while FC Goa will look to bounce back in the coming fixtures.
